Being a DevOps Lead Engineer
As a DevOps Lead Engineer at Tobii, you won’t just maintain infrastructure — you’ll help shape it. You will lead a team of DevOps engineers that design, implement, and maintain infrastructure and automation solutions to enable fast delivery of high-quality software.
This role is ideal for someone who thrives in ambiguity, takes full ownership, and is excited to build and scale systems from the ground up. You will collaborate closely with the Software, Machine Learning, Testing, and Data leads to understand the needs and transform them into technical requirements for your team.
This is a hands-on role that requires both direct contribution to DevOps activities and management of your team. You’ll be expected to take initiative, make decisions quickly, and drive progress without waiting for perfect clarity or structure.
Here’s what your normal day looks like:
- Lead and mentor a team of DevOps engineers in a fast-paced, evolving environment.
- Build and maintain scalable, secure, and resilient infrastructure on AWS.
- Design and implement CI/CD pipelines and automation strategies that support rapid iteration.
- Collaborate cross-functionally to identify pain points and proactively deliver solutions.
- Take full ownership of DevOps initiatives—from concept to execution—with minimal oversight.
- Foster a culture of accountability, experimentation, and continuous improvement.
To succeed in this role, we would love you to have:
- 3+ years of people management experience
- 3+ years of experience in a DevOps, SRE, or Cloud Engineer role
- Strong hands-on experience with AWS services (EC2, S3, IAM, VPC, RDS, etc.)
- Proficiency in setting up and managing Jenkins pipelines and shared libraries
- Experience administering tools such as Artifactory, Bitbucket DC, Coverity, and BlackDuck
- Knowledge of Infrastructure as Code tools (e.g., Terraform, Ansible)
- Experience with monitoring and observability using Prometheus and Grafana
- Familiarity with logging systems (e.g., OpenObserve, ELK, Loki)
- Proficiency in scripting (Bash, Python, or similar)
- Understanding of networking, DNS, TLS, and load balancing
- Familiarity with secure DevOps practices and integrating security in CI/CD (SAST/DAST)
It’s a plus if you have:
- Experience with PostgreSQL administration
- Familiarity with Kubernetes and container orchestration
- Knowledge of backup and disaster recovery solutions in AWS
- Experience with LDAP or SSO integration in enterprise tools
- Experience with MLOps solutions
Sounds like you?
To be able to thrive and enjoy your time in this role within Tobii, we believe you are a smart thinker with an analytical mindset. You’re entrepreneurial, proactive, and thrive in environments where you help define the path forward. You’re energized by building systems and processes from scratch, not just maintaining them. You take full accountability for outcomes and are comfortable wearing multiple hats.
You communicate clearly and effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders. You enjoy working with others and know how to build strong team relationships. You foster a collaborative, supportive team culture and care deeply about team growth. You manage your time well and help the team stay on track.
